Thought experiments and experimental ethics

Experimental ethicists investigate traditional ethical questions with non-traditional means, namely the methods of empirical sciences. Studies in this area have made heavy use philosophical thought experiments such as well-known trolley cases. Yet, specific function these within experimental ethics has received little consideration. In paper we attempt to fill gap. We begin by describing experiments, and show that should not only be classified according their but also scope.
